It's very late now, almost 2 am, and I still keep on aye to my monitor, try every single way to upgrade my KDE. I'm still use KDE 3.1.10, it was package, default package of Redhat 9 Linux. The Qt version was 3.1.1. Those are not compatible in case I want to install new packages, such kopete, or GAIM. I'm having problem to install them, since I didn't use Windows anymore.

tips:
do you want to know what KDE and QT version you are using?
kde-config --version

want to upgrade your kde? you can use konstruct, yum, or apt

having problem with connecting internet through shell? may be you haven't set you shell environment variable. In this case, I haven't set proxy configuration:
export http_proxy=http://your_proxy:port/

whoahh...
